Deutsche Bahn permanent family ticket introduction

Overview

Deutsche Bahn has announced that its family ticket, which was previously a temporary summer offering, will become a permanent fixture for long-distance travel starting November 1.

The ticket is priced at 99.99 euros for a round trip in second class on IC or ICE trains for up to five people, including seat reservations. Pricing options allow for combinations such as one adult with up to four children, or two adults with up to three children. A one-way trip is available for 59.99 euros.

This decision follows criticism regarding the company’s mid-2025 abolition of the previous family reservation system. The new permanent ticket aims to address passenger dissatisfaction by including reservations in the base price. A company spokesperson noted that while the ticket will be offered with high availability, it may sell out on heavily booked connections.
