Development of electric flying skateboard in China
Overview
Song Xingyu, a self-taught inventor from Hubei Province known online as ‘Shenqi Ayu’ or ‘Amazing Ayu’, has developed a man-carrying electric flying skateboard.
The project evolved through two main iterations. An initial prototype using five miniature turbojet engines failed after heat re-ingestion caused combustion failure and destroyed the fuel and electrical systems. Following an AI-driven analysis of this failure, Song pivoted to an electric propulsion system.
The successful second version utilizes ten sets of brushless motors, generating thrust exceeding the weight of four adults. To address stability challenges, the device incorporates an AI-assisted attitude control system. This system uses two mobile devices to collect real-time flight data and provides voice prompts via Bluetooth headphones—such as ‘center of gravity shifted left’—to guide the pilot in maintaining balance. Song has demonstrated the board by flying over mountains and crossing the Yangtze River.
