Overview

Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Abdullah Al Mamun, also known as Mamun Sarkar, for the murder of 17-year-old student Rakibul Islam. The victim disappeared on September 16 after being lured to a location via WhatsApp.

Following the disappearance, the suspect demanded a ransom of 1.5 million BDT. The victim’s family paid 400,000 BDT through mobile banking, but the suspect killed the teenager by breaking his neck during the extortion attempt. The suspect then transported the body in a carton to a betel nut garden in Dimla, Nilphamari, where it was buried.
