Digital Bros cancellation of Armed Fantasia

Overview

Digital Bros, the parent company of 505 Games, has announced the cancellation of the JRPG Armed Fantasia: To the End of the Wilderness. The project, which was led by former developers of the Wild Arms series and raised approximately 379 million yen via Kickstarter in 2022, was intended for release on Nintendo platforms.

According to financial reports, the decision to halt development followed unsuccessful attempts to revise gameplay mechanics. Digital Bros cited changing market conditions and the high level of additional investment required to complete the project as further reasons for the cancellation.

Armed Fantasia is one of three projects being discontinued, alongside the action RPG Directorate: Novitiate and a Battle Island sequel. As a result of these cancellations, Digital Bros reported a non-cash asset impairment of 18.7 million euros, with 17.6 million euros specifically attributed to the write-offs of these discontinued projects. As of the latest reports, no official statement has been issued by the developer, Wild Bunch Productions, regarding the status of funds for the approximately 18,000 Kickstarter backers.
