Digital health and telemedicine implementation in Turkey

Overview

Digital health initiatives are being implemented in Turkey to improve healthcare access and coordination through telemedicine.

In Eskişehir, the Provincial Health Directorate introduced a video consultation system via the Hospital Information Management System. This allows specialists in different hospitals to share findings and coordinate treatment plans in real time, reducing the need for physicians to travel between facilities. A pilot program between Yunus Emre State Hospital and Sivrihisar State Hospital demonstrated how nephrology specialists could provide immediate expert input to internal medicine physicians remotely.

In Beyşehir, a project titled ‘Hand in Hand with Our Mukhtars, Digital Hospital in Your Home’ was launched to assist bedridden patients and those with mobility issues. This initiative utilizes local mukhtars to facilitate video consultations between patients in their homes and hospital specialists, aiming to bridge geographic gaps in remote locations.
