Digital literacy initiatives in Northern Germany

Overview

Northern Germany is launching new digital literacy and technology initiatives. NDR and various Volkshochschulen (adult education centers) are beginning a free online course series titled ‘Auf Kurs bleiben’ on October 8, 2026. This program is designed to promote media competence and democracy education by addressing topics such as disinformation, algorithms, and AI-generated fakes through monthly Zoom sessions.

In conjunction with these courses, the city of Nordhorn is hosting its second ‘Digitaltage’ from October 7 to 9, 2026. This event provides free workshops for students, entrepreneurs, and seniors, featuring hands-on activities such as exploring virtual reality, building AI assistants, and discussing social media tools and digital agriculture.
