Digital transformation of African tax and financial control

Overview

Tax and financial oversight authorities in Francophone Africa are increasingly adopting data science and digital tools to improve revenue collection and systemic financial control.

In Togo, a workshop for the DATAFID project brought together representatives from Côte d’Ivoire, Mauritania, Niger, and Togo to enhance the ability of customs and tax authorities to monitor the digital economy. For the Office Togolais des Recettes, the initiative focuses on automating data processing and strengthening risk analysis methodologies.

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Inspection Générale des Finances (IGF) is pursuing a 2026-2028 strategic plan to deploy advanced technological tools. This includes the development of a national financial data warehouse to identify risks and detect anomalies in public finance management. To support these reforms, IGF inspectors are receiving specialized training in Paris on data management, business intelligence, and tools such as Power BI.
