Disability inclusion initiatives in Samsun

Overview

In Samsun, various initiatives have been implemented to support individuals with disabilities through social and educational programs.

In early September, the Bafra Association for the Visually Impaired, with support from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, organized a five-day nature camp titled “Doğayı Geziyoruz, Engelleri Aşıyoruz” (We Explore Nature, We Overcome Obstacles). The camp hosted 149 participants and their families, offering activities such as nature walks, cultural tours, and visual arts workshops to promote social participation and psychosocial support.

Following this, the Samsun Metropolitan Municipality launched the ‘Inclusive Science Workshops: Discovering Together Project’ in collaboration with TÜBİTAK and local health and education directorates. This initiative provides free scientific demonstrations, design work, and educational games specifically for students with mild intellectual disabilities and their siblings at the Bilim Samsun facilities.
