Disability support and caregiver training in Poland
Overview
Educational initiatives in Poland are providing specialized training for caregivers and professionals working with people with disabilities and chronic illnesses.
In Szczecin, practical training sessions are being conducted in a demonstration apartment that mimics home environments. Led by nursing staff, these sessions cover essential skills such as first aid, safe patient transfer, pressure sore prevention, and communication with individuals with cognitive impairments using specialized equipment and simulators.
Complementing these practical skills, the Avalon Foundation is hosting online training led by health educator Marta Marysia Skrobacka. This program, titled ‘Sexuality in the Shadow of Institutions’, focuses on the sexuality, intimacy, and privacy of individuals with intellectual disabilities and developmental disorders. The training is intended for parents, caregivers, and staff in therapeutic facilities and special schools to help them support health education and boundaries while respecting the agency of supported individuals.
