Disaster relief and social aid in Argentina and Chile

Families in Argentina and Chile have been receiving various forms of emergency assistance following natural disasters and environmental challenges.

Initial reports highlighted housing emergencies caused by fires and weather systems. In Las Heras, Argentina, a family in the 110 Viviendas neighborhood lost significant portions of their home to fire and is seeking construction materials to begin repairs. In Chanco, Chile, the National Service for Disaster Prevention and Response (SENAPRED) delivered emergency housing and habitability kits, including food and hygiene supplies, to families affected by weather systems and fires.

Subsequent relief efforts expanded to include broader social aid for rural and remote populations. In Chile, municipal and regional authorities provided hygiene kits, food, and livestock silage to families in Purén facing heavy snowfall, while also distributing bedding and furniture to isolated families in Lonquimay. In Argentina, the Ministry of Human Development scheduled the distribution of food modules through the ‘Comer en Casa’ program to support food security for families in the Puna region.
