The Superior Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva (STJD) has suspended Palmeiras coach Abel Ferreira for two matches following an incident where he was filmed kicking a broadcast microphone during a match against Mirassol. The tribunal classified the act as unsportsmanlike conduct under Article 258 of the Brazilian Code of Sports Justice (CBJD).

Palmeiras appealed the ruling, arguing that because the refereeing crew witnessed the incident without issuing immediate sanctions, the subsequent punishment constitutes double jeopardy. Auditor Antonieta da Silva has since granted the request for a suspensive effect, noting a divergence in previous rulings where one rapporteur voted for acquittal while the majority voted for suspension.

This decision cleared Ferreira to lead the team in their recent Campeonato Brasileiro match against Botafogo at the Nilton Santos stadium. The fixture ended in a 0-0 draw, a result that allowed Flamengo to take the tournament lead with 54 points, leaving Palmeiras in second place with 53 points. The match was characterized by strong defensive play and a late red card for Palmeiras defender Alexander Barboza, who was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for a foul on Kadir. Additionally, midfielder Marlon Freitas received his third yellow card, triggering a suspension for the upcoming match against São Paulo.

The suspension for Ferreira remains in place until the STJD Pleno issues a final judgment on the appeal. Notably, the penalty applies only to national competitions and does not affect his availability for international matches, such as the Copa Libertadores.
