Discovery of remains in Cabrera d'Anoia

Overview

Police in Cabrera d'Anoia, near Barcelona, discovered the remains of a man, identified in later reports as 77 years old, inside a home where his wife and daughter had been living with the corpse for at least two years.

The Mossos d'Esquadra were alerted by neighbors who noticed an overgrown garden, accumulated debris, and a stationary vehicle. Upon entering the residence, authorities found the remains in an advanced state of decomposition, covered by a blanket. The women reported that the man passed away while sitting on a sofa and they moved him to an adjacent room.

The family stated they had remained in complete isolation since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, ordering necessities online and retrieving packages at night to avoid contact. While the house was found in poor sanitary condition, preliminary investigations suggest the death was due to natural causes, and there are currently no suspicions of criminal activity. The women were taken to a hospital for medical and psychological support.
