Disney Haunted Mansion refurbishment and overlays

In late July 2026 Disney began a visual overhaul of the Haunted Mansion at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, removing the scrim that had covered the façade and revealing a refreshed green patina on the dome, lighter bricks and cleaned ironwork. The work was part of a broader program that also saw the classic Haunted Mansion attractions in Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Anaheim close for seasonal “Holiday Nightmare” overlays – Tokyo closing on 4 August and reopening 15 September, Anaheim closing on 8 August and reopening 21 August.

By early August the exterior refurbishment at Magic Kingdom was completed. All scaffolding and themed scrim were removed, restoring the colour scheme to the bright red bricks, crisp gray trim and deep metallic‑green metal accents that marked the ride’s 1971 opening. New landscaping and stonework were added around the base, and minor queue changes, such as moving a gravestone, were made. The finished façade readied the attraction for upcoming seasonal decorations, tying the Magic Kingdom work to the holiday overlays occurring at the other parks.
