Disney integration of AI and robotics
Overview
Disney is increasingly incorporating artificial intelligence and robotics into its internal workflows and creative productions. An engineer at the company has demonstrated the ability to use multiple autonomous AI agents to accelerate complex tasks, such as data gathering and code review, reducing timelines from weeks to hours.
Further expansion of these technologies is being facilitated through the Disney Accelerator program. During a 2026 Demo Day at the Walt Disney Studios lot, the program highlighted new collaborations with five companies: Promise, OpenArt, FieldAI, Physical Intelligence, and Simile. These partnerships focus on using generative AI for hybrid filmmaking, animation, and visual concept development for music videos. For example, Promise demonstrated techniques that blend live-action performances with AI-generated environments, while Disney Music Group is working with OpenArt to develop visual concepts for lyric videos.
Beyond content creation, Disney is exploring AI-powered robotics and analytics for operational use. Collaborations with FieldAI and Physical Intelligence aim to develop solutions for backstage tasks, robotic characters, and parking operations. Specifically, Disney is testing FieldAI technology to develop autonomous robots designed to guide vehicles through Disneyland Resort parking lots to alleviate traffic congestion. These robots utilize physical AI systems to process real-time environmental data without relying on traditional GPS. Other potential applications for this technology include security support, perimeter patrols, backstage employee assistance, and delivering items to guests in attraction queues. Additionally, Simile is utilizing advanced analytics to improve guest planning and operational insights.
