Overview

Governor Dapo Abiodun has announced the completion of the Muhammadu Buhari Estate in Abeokuta, a 108-unit residential community located along the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway. The administration described the project as a “rescued development,” stating it was inherited in an incomplete state and faced potential forfeiture due to legal disputes regarding unpaid contractor obligations. To resolve these issues, the state utilized an out-of-court settlement and a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, where the state provided land and infrastructure while private developers managed construction and sales.

The completed estate features four-bedroom detached and semi-detached duplexes, equipped with internal roads, street lighting, a sporting center, a clubhouse, a children’s playground, 24-hour power, and waste management facilities. Governor Abiodun recently showcased the interior of a model house within the development. The estate is scheduled to be commissioned by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

However, former Governor Ibikunle Amosun has disputed these claims, characterizing them as a “distortion of history.” Amosun asserted that the project was approximately 95 per cent complete before his administration ended in 2019 and that sufficient funding had been mobilized for the infrastructure contract, valued at approximately ₦3.5bn. He stated that the response to the current administration's allegations was necessary to defend his personal integrity.
