Disruptions in the Hungarian Parliament

Tensions have escalated within the Hungarian Parliament during recent sessions, characterized by verbal altercations between representatives and disruptions involving external observers.

In an early incident, a session led by Anikó Hallerné Nagy devolved into a heated dispute involving Fidesz representatives. Following remarks by Péter Magyar regarding rural development, a confrontation arose when Hallerné Nagy denied János Pócs the right to speak. The situation intensified as György Balla challenged the presiding officer’s application of parliamentary rules, leading to a verbal altercation where Hallerné Nagy silenced Balla’s microphone and reminded the assembly that the chamber is ‘not a playground.’

In a subsequent incident, a confrontation occurred between Péter Magyar and journalist Virág Gulyás. While addressing questions about the House of Terror, Magyar labeled Gulyás a ‘propagandist’ who had received significant public funds. After Gulyás responded from the gallery, Speaker Hallerné Nagy intervened and ordered security to escort her from the chamber. Gulyás later clarified that she was an independent communications expert and was escorted from the chamber rather than the entire building.
