Distrito Federal 2026 election campaign intensifies

Political activity in the Distrito Federal is intensifying as candidates prepare for the 2026 elections. Initial efforts focused on sector-specific engagement, such as meetings between technology organizations and candidates like Arruda to discuss the ICT ecosystem, and mobilization by black political movements to advocate for increased representation.

As the campaign progresses, candidates have intensified their efforts through formal debates and the submission of government plans to the Electoral Justice. Candidates including Kiko Caputo, José Roberto Arruda, and Ricardo Cappelli have focused on public service improvements. A recurring theme involves using the neighboring state of Goiás as a benchmark to criticize local management regarding education, health, and security.

Specific policy proposals have emerged: Celina Leão has emphasized literacy and school infrastructure, Elisson Ferreira has prioritized electronic health records and transport, and Expedito Mendonça has advocated for increased public education funding.

In response to social issues, the MPDFT has launched a campaign in the Metro to combat gender-based political violence and encourage female participation. Public demand remains high for improvements in transportation reliability, school infrastructure, and healthcare access across the Federal District.
