DMD gene therapy fundraising in Turkey

Overview

Families in Turkey are launching various fundraising campaigns to secure expensive gene therapy treatments for children suffering from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).

In late September, individual cases were highlighted in Milas and Kayseri. In Milas, a campaign for Göktuğ Kurt had reached 15 percent of its goal, while in Kayseri, a governorate-approved campaign for 4-year-old Eymen Altaş had raised approximately 357,000 dollars, representing 12 percent of the 3-million-dollar target.

By late October, some progress was reported. In Karaman, Toprak Doğan was able to travel to Dubai for continued medical treatment following a successful local fundraising effort. Meanwhile, in Alanya, the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) district presidency issued a call for donations for Taha Miraç Kevkir. Previous local efforts in Alanya, involving NGOs and Corendon Alanyaspor, had raised approximately 65 million TL, reaching 46 percent of the required total.
