Domestic violence legal proceedings in Hungary

Hungarian prosecutors have taken legal action in several distinct cases involving domestic violence and abuse.

In Budakörnyék, the District Prosecution Office initiated proceedings to protect three minors following reports of severe domestic abuse. Authorities reported that a man subjected a child to physical violence, including stepping on her head with a work boot, and psychological cruelty, such as telling her, “You have no father.” Police issued a temporary restraining order, and prosecutors have requested formal court orders to ensure the children’s continued development and safety.

In separate incidents, prosecutors brought charges against two men in Orosháza and Győr. In Orosháza, a man faces charges for road endangerment and driving under the influence after allegedly using a truck to force his wife’s car off the road and puncturing her tires with a knife. In Győr, a man was charged with aggravated domestic violence and illegal possession of firearms after allegedly threatening his partner with a pistol and forcing her to dig a grave in a forest. Police seized an unlicensed shotgun and a gas alarm weapon during the investigation.
