Domestic violence sentencing cases

In late July 2026, courts in the United Kingdom handed down custodial and suspended sentences to several men convicted of harassment and domestic‑violence offences. On 22 July, a Welsh magistrate sentenced Mark Bolderston to an 18‑week suspended term with community orders and restraining conditions, while a separate English case resulted in a custodial term for Kieran Smith after convictions for strangulation, assault and breaches of restraining orders.

A few days later, on 29 July, sentencing continued in both the UK and Australia. In Albury, Australia, Cooper Christopher Maher received a three‑year‑three‑month prison term for assault, intimidation and property damage linked to violence against former partners. In the UK, Hull Crown Court sentenced Benjamin Morgan to imprisonment for a series of assaults, including actual bodily harm and suffocating his partner, together with intimidation and coercive control.

Both snapshots illustrate an ongoing pattern of courts imposing significant custodial sentences and ancillary orders on perpetrators of domestic violence across the UK and, in one instance, Australia.
