Dominican Republic agricultural regulation

Overview

In the Dominican Republic, agricultural producers and the government have engaged in various regulatory developments. Casabe and cassava producers, represented by the Association of Casaberos of Monción (ASOPROCAMON), requested that President Luis Abinader review the law creating the National Casabe Institute (INDOCASABE). The group sought modifications to ensure producers have direct representation and a vote on the institution’s board of directors to better manage financing, training, and marketing.

Separately, President Abinader promulgated Decree 719-26 to regulate the 2026-2027 sugar harvest. This decree grants the Dominican Sugar Institute (INAZUCAR) control over foreign trade, requiring official permits for the export of sugar, molasses, and subproducts. The regulations also mandate that sugar companies prioritize local supply and provide detailed reports of international sales to authorities.
