Dominican Republic electoral and party legal developments
Overview
In the Dominican Republic, political organizations are engaged in various legal and administrative processes regarding electoral status and scheduling. The Permanent Forum of Political Parties (FOPPPREDOM) formally requested that the Central Electoral Board (JCE) and the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) postpone upcoming elections.
Simultaneously, the political movement Dominicanos Primero reached a milestone in its pursuit of official recognition after the JCE accepted its identifying symbols, including its motto, ‘Primero tú, primero nosotros, primero RD’.
Legal challenges regarding party recognition have also emerged. The TSE postponed a hearing until September 15, 2026, concerning a lawsuit filed by the Proyecto Visión Nación (PVN) party and José Cristopher Ramírez. The lawsuit seeks to annul the legal status of 33 minority political parties and movements that allegedly failed to secure at least 1% of the vote in the 2024 elections, as required by Law 33-18.
