Dominican Republic sports infrastructure renovations
Overview
The Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Sports and Recreation (Miderec) has continued its program of renovating sports infrastructure in the Greater Santo Domingo area.
In early September, the ministry inaugurated the reconstructed Club General Antonio Duvergé in the Honduras sector, a project costing RD$31,179,736.32. The 1,100-square-meter facility includes reinforced concrete playing surfaces, bleachers, and locker rooms intended for sports like basketball and volleyball.
On September 22, Vice President Raquel Peña and Sports Minister Kelvin Cruz inaugurated the renovated multipurpose facility at Club Los Gladiadores in the Guachupita sector. This project, involving an investment of over RD$28.2 million, improved approximately 1,300 square meters of space, including the playing area, bleachers, bathrooms, locker rooms, and exterior areas.
Minister Cruz stated that this project marks the 64th completed work under his administration’s leadership. These initiatives are part of a broader mandate from President Luis Abinader to provide safe community and athletic spaces for youth through the renovation of clubs throughout Greater Santo Domingo.
