Dominican Republic-Venezuela diplomatic relations

Overview

Following the formal restoration of diplomatic and consular relations between the Dominican Republic and Venezuela on August 2, 2026, the Dominican Republic officially reopened its Consulate General in Caracas on October 1, 2026. This reopening marks a step toward normalizing relations after a rupture in July 2024.

Led by Consul General Héctor Pastor Vásquez, the Caracas consulate is located in the Multicentro Empresarial del Este in the Chacao municipality. The mission offers a full range of services, including visas, passport applications, legal certifications, notary powers, and assistance for Dominican citizens.

As a result of the reopening, all new visa applications for Venezuelan nationals must be processed through the Caracas mission. The Dominican Republic's Consulate General in Bogotá, Colombia, ceased accepting new visa applications from Venezuelan citizens on September 30, 2026. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) clarified that the Bogotá office will continue to complete applications already registered in the Mission Management System (SGM), but documents processed in Colombia will not be transferred to Venezuela for pickup.
