Dominican Winter Baseball League activities

The Dominican Winter Baseball League (LIDOM) is marked by historical commemorations and significant franchise rivalries. The season began around the 71st anniversary of the first night game played between rivals Tigres del Licey and Leones del Escogido, a matchup that originally occurred in 1955. Further league activity includes high-stakes matchups between Águilas Cibaeñas and Tigres del Licey at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium. Additionally, the Gigantes del Cibao are celebrating 30 years of professional baseball participation, honoring the players and leaders who have shaped the franchise since its 1996 debut. During the 2026-2027 season, recent matchups have seen several teams securing winning streaks. The Estrellas Orientales claimed the top spot in the league standings after a successful two-game sweep of the Gigantes del Cibao. Following a narrow 12-11 victory, the Estrellas completed the sweep with a 12-6 win at Estadio Julián Javier. Supported by 13 hits and home runs from Raimel Tapia, César Prieto, and Leo Bernal, the Estrellas improved to a 5-2 record, overtaking the Tigres del Licey for first place. Geison Urbáez earned the win. The Leones del Escogido also secured their third consecutive victory, defeating Toros del Este 15-11 at the Francisco A. Micheli Stadium. The Escogido offense recorded 17 hits, led by Andy Ibáñez with four RBIs and Jason Schiavone with two doubles, moving the team to a 4-4 record and third place in the standings. In a notable contest at Estadio Quisqueya Juan Marichal, the Águilas Cibaeñas staged a comeback to defeat the Tigres del Licey 9-5. After trailing 2-0 early, the Águilas rallied behind a sixth-inning surge and a bases-loaded triple by Jorge Bonifacio in the seventh. Raúl Brito earned the win, while Licey stands at 5-3.
