Donkey aggression incident in Lower Saxony

Overview

In August 2026, a donkey named Freddy escaped near a roundabout in Holssel, located in the Geestland region of Lower Saxony, Germany. The animal, accompanied by a female companion, became aggressive when a 58-year-old man and a 59-year-old woman attempted to restrain them using their motorhome.

The donkey jumped into the vehicle and began kicking and biting the occupants, causing minor injuries. A third individual, a 33-year-old woman who stopped to assist, was also bitten and kicked, requiring hospital treatment. The incident concluded once the owner arrived to control the animal. Authorities have not determined the cause of the donkey’s aggression.
