Dosquebradas earthquake recovery efforts

Overview

Following an earthquake on August 10, authorities in Dosquebradas have implemented recovery measures focusing on educational infrastructure and student well-being.

In mid-September, technical teams began inspecting school facilities to determine safety for a planned return to in-person classes by September 21. To facilitate this, the municipality utilized a donation of approximately 364 million pesos from the Accenorte road concession and the Frisby Foundation. This funding provided temporary classrooms via 12 large tents for several institutions, as well as sanitary modules and bedding for affected families.

By October, recovery efforts expanded to include psychosocial support for approximately 500 secondary school students at Hogar Nazaret and Los Andes institutions. Through the ‘La Vida es Más’ and ‘Amor por la Vida’ strategies, health professionals have been providing interventions to address emotional distress, such as fear and irritability, to foster resilience among the youth affected by the seismic event.
