Drug-related violence in Spain

Overview

Recent criminal investigations in Spain have linked fatal incidents to local drug trafficking operations.

In Almadén, the Guardia Civil concluded ‘Operation Duther’ following a six-month investigation into the murder of a young man whose body was found burned in the Valle de Alcudia. Authorities determined the killing resulted from a dispute involving the theft of hashish. Three suspects are in provisional detention facing charges of murder, drug trafficking, and belonging to a criminal group.

In Almería, the National Police arrested two suspects following a fatal shooting in the Pescadería neighborhood. The victim was struck in the neck by a 9mm projectile. Investigators believe the crime is connected to a property being used as a drug sales point. Both suspects have been ordered to held in provisional, non-bailable prison as they face investigation for murder, unlawful possession of weapons, coercion, and threats.
