Drug seizures from yacht in Subic Bay

Overview

Authorities in Subic Bay have conducted two major seizures of kush from a sailing yacht docked at the Subic Bay Yacht Club.

On September 3, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) seized approximately 98.332 kilograms of kush, valued at an estimated ₱162 million, from a vessel that had traveled from Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, and was originally destined for Taiwan. The yacht, manned by Thai and Malaysian crew members, had sought emergency shelter due to inclement weather. The operation involved the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, the Philippine Coast Guard, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Department of Justice.

By September 6, an additional 123.91 kilograms of high-grade kush were discovered on the vessel, identified as the ‘Lindsy’. This second discovery brought the total amount of drugs recovered to 198 packages, with an estimated street value of P366.65 million. The Philippine Coast Guard is now seeking to examine the vessel’s navigational data, including GPS and logbooks, to investigate maritime smuggling routes.
