Drug trafficking and crime in Montenegro and Croatia
Overview
Law enforcement operations in Montenegro and Croatia have targeted various forms of criminal activity, including drug trafficking and financial fraud. In Montenegro, authorities arrested individuals for cocaine possession and filed charges against a resident for allegedly smuggling over 21 kilograms of marijuana to Serbia. Additionally, investigations were launched into the company Vektra Jakić and its director for the alleged fraud of creditors totaling approximately 1.2 million euros.
In Croatia, a court in Split sentenced an individual to two years in prison for the possession of 700 grams of cocaine.
Montenegrin police have also identified a shift in narcotics distribution methods, noting an increase in the use of digital communication applications like Viber to facilitate sales. While traffickers use these platforms to broadcast offers and negotiate prices, the physical exchange of narcotics continues to occur offline. Over the past year, Montenegrin police reported seizing approximately 410 kilograms of various narcotics.
