Dubai clean energy and sustainability push

In late July 2026 Dubai unveiled its Clean Energy Strategy 2050, a comprehensive plan to make the emirate a global clean‑energy hub and achieve net‑zero emissions by mid‑century. The strategy emphasized a massive expansion of solar generation through the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, stricter green‑building regulations, and the electrification of transport, including metro extensions, electric buses and wider EV charging infrastructure.

A few days later the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and the Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority signed a Memorandum of Understanding to embed environmental sustainability into the aviation sector. The MoU calls for data‑driven monitoring, knowledge‑sharing and adoption of best practices across the city’s ecosystems. Concurrently, Dubai reinforced its push for green buildings by mandating LEED certification for new projects and encouraging retrofits of existing structures, highlighting economic and reputational benefits for developers.

Together, these steps illustrate Dubai’s move from setting an ambitious long‑term clean‑energy vision to establishing concrete inter‑agency partnerships and building‑standards that operationalise the strategy across energy, transport and construction sectors.
