Dung Quat Economic Zone industrial development

Overview

The Dung Quat Economic Zone in Quang Ngai Province, Vietnam, has established itself as a major industrial hub for Central Vietnam, attracting nearly $20 billion in total registered capital across more than 440 projects. Key industrial drivers include the Dung Quat refinery, which is undergoing a $4.54 billion expansion, and Hoa Phat Group’s steel complexes, representing an investment of approximately $7.47 billion.

As of mid-2026, the region’s industrial production has shown significant growth, with the industrial production index rising 14.1% over a seven-month period. Notably, steel production increased by 57.6% and petrochemical products grew by 6.5%. These industrial zones contribute over 70 percent of the province’s economic growth, exports, and budget revenue.

In response to this growth, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc has emphasized the necessity of optimizing transport infrastructure and strengthening connections between Dung Quat and Chu Lai. Experts have also highlighted the importance of aligning future development with green economy planning, focusing on clean energy, green logistics, and circular economy models to ensure sustainable expansion.
