Dyson launches AI-integrated oral and home care products

Overview

Dyson has expanded its product portfolio into dental hygiene with the launch of the CameraJet, an AI-powered oral care device. Developed over six years, the system integrates an electric toothbrush with a water flosser and a 1 mm diameter macro camera located beneath the brush head.

Using a machine learning algorithm called ‘Gap Optical Targeting’, the device captures 28 images per second to identify interdental spaces and plaque-prone gaps. Upon detection, the system directs a targeted conical jet of mouthwash to the specific area within 100 milliseconds. To maintain camera visibility, Dyson recommends using low-foaming toothpaste and provides specialized mouthrinse and toothpaste in the package.

The CameraJet connects to a smartphone app that provides coverage maps and analyzes brushing patterns. The device includes a portable station that serves as a charging dock, a travel case, and a 200 ml water reservoir capable of refilling the toothbrush tank in roughly three seconds. Dyson has stated that images captured during use are not recorded or stored on the device or in the cloud.

In the UK, the product retails for approximately £419.99, while in the US, it is priced at $499.99. This launch follows the introduction of other AI-integrated products, including Robot Nurovi cleaners, HushJet air purifiers, the W1 PencilWash wet cleaner, and hair styling tools like the Corrale CoolShine straightener and Airsmooth hot brush.
