Earthquake relief and recovery in Manggarai Timur

Overview

Following a 7.7 magnitude earthquake on August 15 in Manggarai Timur, East Nusa Tenggara, relief efforts have expanded to include infrastructure recovery and specialized medical screenings.

In addition to previous medical assistance provided by Hasanuddin University volunteers in Satar Punda Village, Semen Padang Peduli has deployed medical teams to conduct health screenings. These efforts target various age groups, including pregnant women and the elderly, to prevent secondary health issues in the disaster zone.

Logistical operations have also addressed energy stability and remote access. Pertamina officials, including Chairman Mochammad Iriawan, inspected the Reo Fuel Terminal to ensure fuel supply stability following damage to certain facilities, such as offices and prayer rooms. While some damage was reported, the terminal is returning to normal operations.

Relief teams have successfully reached the isolated Watu Hedok hamlet, a remote hilltop area previously cut off from aid. Volunteers delivered essential supplies—including food, medicine, baby equipment, and tarpaulins—to approximately 45 families. Residents in these areas continue to face extreme weather and the threat of aftershocks, with many remaining in emergency tents due to fears of further seismic activity.
