East Texas weekend community events

In mid‑July, East Texas hosted a series of local celebrations. The 42nd Tour de Paris bike rally drew more than 1,700 cyclists, while Black Beauty Ranch offered guided tours of its animal collection. A Christmas‑in‑July market sat alongside the inauguration of the Stamper Park Family Aquatic Center in Longview and a Kids Splash Day in Canton. A Car and Truck Show at Flint Baptist Church and local FIFA World Cup watch parties rounded out the weekend, with a tax‑free shopping period slated for early August.

By the first weekend of August, the focus shifted to a different set of attractions. Canton’s First Monday Trade Days, the nation’s largest flea market, continued through Sunday, providing a historic venue for antiques and crafts. Farmers’ markets popped up in Longview, Tyler, Palestine, Mineola and other towns. Additional activities included an evening fishing event at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athens, a Gun & Knife Show at the Longview Expo Center, and the "On Main" street‑level celebration in downtown Palestine. The sequence shows how East Texas sustains a varied calendar of community‑focused events throughout the summer.
