Ecological and biodiversity initiatives in Poland
Overview
Various ecological projects have been implemented across different regions of Poland to promote biodiversity and environmental awareness.
In Racibórz and Radomsko, educational initiatives focused on community engagement. Students in Racibórz participated in planting 5,000 crocus bulbs to support local biodiversity, while students in Radomsko engaged in environmental knowledge tests, photography contests, and educational walks led by officials.
In the Krakow region, larger scale restoration efforts are underway. A project involving WWF Poland, the Bonneville Environmental Foundation, and Wody Polskie aims to restore ecological continuity in the Prądnik River by removing concrete barriers to facilitate fish migration by 2028. Additionally, the Nowohucki Reservoir is undergoing a biodiversity protection project funded by European Funds for Małopolska 2021–2027, which involves cleaning the reservoir floor of silt and waste under naturalist supervision.
