Economic outlook trends in Chile and Mexico

Overview

Economic outlooks for Chile and Mexico have shown signs of volatility and downward revisions. In Chile, public perception of the economy deteriorated, with 51% of surveyed individuals rating the situation as bad. This was followed by the Central Bank of Chile lowering its 2026 GDP growth projections from a range of 1.0%–1.75% to 0.25%–0.75%, citing weakening domestic demand, a deteriorating labor market, and lower mining production.

In Mexico, investment in certain subsectors experienced significant declines of up to 44.5% due to energy availability issues and uncertainty regarding T-MEC rules and tariffs. While Banamex slightly increased its 2026 GDP growth estimate for Mexico from 1.3% to 1.4% due to improvements in construction and the external sector, it lowered its 2027 forecast to 1.7% in anticipation of a more gradual recovery in manufacturing.
