Ecopetrol leadership restructuring and forensic audit

Ecopetrol has entered a period of significant organizational and legal scrutiny. In late August 2026, the company announced a major leadership and board restructuring. This process involved the departure of five key officials across various vice-presidencies, including Territorial Transformation, Strategy and New Business, and Refining and Industrial Processes. Changes also extended to subsidiaries such as Ocensa, Cenit, and Ecopetrol Brasil. During this transition, the government planned to propose amendments to company bylaws to allow for a broader renewal of the Board of Directors.

Following these structural shifts, a forensic audit was launched to investigate business activities linked to the former staff of the company’s previous president, Ricardo Roa. The investigation is specifically examining two companies, Sintiendo Huellas and Oslo y Gales SAS, which are connected to María Andrea Vargas Gómez, the former Chief of Staff. Investigators are reviewing financial records and potential links between these entities and Ecopetrol executives, as well as political contributions made to the Colombia Humana party.
