Ecuadorian economic and tourism sector growth

Ecuador is experiencing growth across its business and tourism sectors. In 2025, the country’s business sector recorded over 1.2 million companies, which generated 2.98 million registered jobs and a total wage mass of USD 27.533 billion.

By 2026, the tourism sector also showed significant upward trends. Between January and August 2026, non-resident visitors increased by 9.2% compared to the previous year, reaching 990,402 people. Tourism sales for the first seven months of 2026 also rose by 9.2% year-over-year, totaling USD 4,271.6 million. Natural areas, including the Galápagos Islands and Cotopaxi, continue to be primary drivers for travel.

Recent developments in September 2026 highlight regional efforts to expand tourism niches and infrastructure. The Guayas Provincial Government has officially bid to host the 2030 South American Bird Fair, showcasing 18 specialized birdwatching hotspots. In the Amazon, six provinces have established a Tourism Chambers Federation based in Puyo to enhance regional coordination. Additionally, the Azuay Prefecture has launched a tourism campaign for the October holiday period.

In the private sector, the fast-food chain Taco Bell has expanded its Ecuadorian presence by opening its first location in Santo Domingo, bringing its national total to 10 restaurants. In Quito, Metropolitan Touring and Casa Gangotena participated in a community volunteer initiative at the San Juan de Dios Shelter to support the revitalization of the city's Historic Center.
