Ecuadorian Olympic Committee leadership transition

Overview

Following a period of institutional crisis and state intervention by the Ecuadorian government, Jefferson Pérez, a 1996 Olympic gold medalist, assumed the presidency of the Ecuadorian Olympic Committee (COE) on July 31, 2026. The intervention had been initiated in June 2026 due to legal disputes regarding the previous leadership under Jorge Delgado Panchana.

By mid-August 2026, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Panam Sports officially recognized the new leadership. Pérez has stated his intention to restructure the organization, strengthen technical autonomy, and reduce external interventions to better support national athletes.
