Edelweiss Air expansion and Zurich Airport growth

Edelweiss Air has initiated a period of operational and infrastructural expansion. The airline launched a new inaugural service from Zurich to Seattle using an Airbus A340 and increased capacity to several international destinations, including the Maldives, Cape Town, Mauritius, and various Mediterranean locations. To accommodate seasonal demand, the carrier is deploying larger Airbus A350 aircraft on specific routes and increasing frequency to Finnish Lapland.

In conjunction with these route expansions, the Lufthansa Group subsidiary opened the ‘Edelweiss Hub’ at Zurich Airport. This two-story facility in the Circle complex functions as both a public experience center featuring interactive destination elements and an internal operational space for employee training, meetings, and business collaboration.

Recent financial reports from Zurich Airport indicate a period of significant growth, with revenue rising 5% to 673.6 million CHF in the first half of 2026. This growth, driven by increased passenger numbers and international business, has led to projections that annual passenger volume will exceed 33 million for 2026. As part of ongoing redevelopment at Dock A, SWISS has announced plans to open new Business and Senator lounges at Dock B in early 2027. These facilities will provide approximately 2,600 square meters of space, featuring glass facades with views of the Alps and runways, soundproof workspaces, and premium amenities such as a wine humidor.
