Edinburgh murder and prison suicide

Entities: Lee Greenan · Vikki Soloman · Police Investigations and Review Commissioner · HMP Edinburgh · Edinburgh

Overview

On 20 July 2026 Vikki Soloman, a 44‑year‑old business owner, was found dead after being stabbed at her home on Craigievar Square in Edinburgh. Police arrested her former partner, 46‑year‑old Lee Greenan, who entered a nearby pub covered in blood and admitted to the killing. Greenan was charged with murder and two counts of assault and held in HMP Edinburgh.

Six days later, on 26 July, Greenan was discovered dead in his cell. Prison and police officials said the death appeared to be a suicide, and no suspicious circumstances were identified. A Fatal Accident Inquiry was announced to examine both deaths.

Following the incident, the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner opened a probe into police conduct after it emerged that officers had been contacted before the killing. The watchdog’s findings will be submitted to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service.
