Educational and literacy initiatives in Turkey
Overview
Various educational support and literacy programs have been implemented across different regions in Turkey. In late September, a volunteer-led mobilization centered in Kütahya expanded to 348 schools, providing books, stationery, and educational materials to students in need across Ankara, Afyonkarahisar, and Gaziantep. The project leader, Zeki Aktürk, noted that “A book is not just read. It touches a child's dream, future, and life.”
In October, the Türkiye Gençlik Vakfı (TÜGVA) launched its ninth ‘Kitap Kurdu’ (Bookworm) project in Gaziantep. This initiative focuses on fostering reading habits among youth to improve academic success and historical awareness. Following a previous year with 358,000 participants, TÜGVA President İbrahim Beşinci stated the organization aims to reach 450,000 young people through the program.
