Egypt digital infrastructure and AI development

Egypt is pursuing several initiatives to advance its digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity capabilities.

In late August 2026, the National Telecommunications Institute and the State Lawsuits Authority signed a protocol to support digital transformation and AI through specialized training and technical consultancy for judicial members. Concurrently, Telecom Egypt entered an agreement with Greece’s Power Sub Link S.A. to build a 200 km submarine cable between Sharm El-Sheikh and Taba. This high-capacity fiber optic project, expected to be operational by late 2027, aims to diversify data transit routes between Asia, Africa, and Europe.

Following these developments, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met with Cisco Systems CEO Chuck Robbins to discuss expanding cooperation in information technology and telecommunications. The discussions focused on supporting Egypt’s digital transformation, scaling capacity-building programs for Egyptian youth, and addressing cybersecurity risks related to AI models.
