Egypt military production development and expansion
Overview
Egypt’s Ministry of Military Production has initiated efforts to modernize its industrial capabilities and expand its international market reach.
Initially, the Ministry focused on internal upgrades, specifically prioritizing the development of ammunition manufacturing. Minister of State for Military Production Salah Suleiman Gambalat directed subsidiary companies to upgrade production lines, localize modern technologies, and integrate artificial intelligence to enhance self-sufficiency and reduce import dependency.
Following these domestic development goals, the Ministry shifted focus toward international industrial cooperation. Discussions were held with the Egyptian Ambassador to Uganda to explore opening new markets for both military and civilian products in Uganda, leveraging Egypt’s extensive industrial base and production lines to establish strategic partnerships in the region.
Expanding this international outreach, Minister Dr. Salah Suleiman Gembalat visited Bosnia and Herzegovina to participate in the ‘First Balkan Shield – Defence Industry Expo and Summit 2026’. During the event, the Ministry’s pavilion showcased weapons, ammunition, equipment, and advanced electronic systems.
At the summit in Sarajevo, Minister Gembala met with Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Minister of Defence, Zukan Helez, to discuss joint production, technology localization, and cooperation in mine action and demining. Helez noted the potential for training cooperation, citing Egypt’s experience in UN peacekeeping missions. Furthermore, the Ministry signed a memorandum of understanding with Turkey’s Mechanical and Chemical Industry Corporation (MKE). This agreement involves Egypt’s Heliopolis Chemical Industries and Helwan Engineering Industries to foster industrial partnerships and exchange technical expertise in the defense sector.
