Egypt national livestock vaccination campaign

Overview

In late August 2026, the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation launched its second national livestock vaccination campaign of the year. Managed by the General Organization for Veterinary Services, the initiative was designed to protect cattle, buffalo, sheep, and goats against foot-and-mouth disease and Rift Valley fever across all governorates.

The campaign involved deploying veterinary teams to villages and centers to conduct vaccinations, animal registration, numbering, and epidemiological surveillance. It also included disinfection operations at livestock markets and community awareness efforts to minimize economic losses and protect national livestock resources.

By early September, the Ministry reported that the campaign had successfully administered over 2 million doses. Specifically, officials noted that 1,136,837 animals were vaccinated against foot-and-mouth disease and 903,136 against Rift Valley fever, with efforts continuing to reach remote and border areas to support food security.
