Egyptian public health and medical service initiatives
Overview
Egypt has implemented several initiatives to expand access to free medical services for vulnerable populations. In late September, the Ministry of Social Solidarity and the Ministry of Interior launched a joint program to provide free medical examinations for residents of state-run elderly care homes. This initiative, marking the International Day of Older Persons, utilizes police hospitals in several locations, including Nasr City, Alexandria, and Assiut, to serve thousands of elderly individuals.
Concurrently, health directorates in the Fayoum and Minya governorates have deployed medical convoys to provide healthcare to rural and underserved areas. In Fayoum, specialized services have targeted women’s health, chronic diseases, and elderly care. In Minya, part of the ‘Decent Life’ presidential initiative, extensive convoys have provided tens of thousands of medical services, including diagnostic tests, surgery, and dentistry, across multiple centers.
