Overview
El Salvador is addressing shifts in agricultural demand and food security through enhanced domestic production. Data from the Cid Gallup polling firm indicates that annual maize consumption has declined significantly, dropping from 22 million quintals to approximately 9.79 million quintals over a three-year period.
In response, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) has implemented a food security strategy via a Production Enhancement Program. The government aims to produce up to 12 million quintals of maize and 1.9 million quintals of beans to stabilize prices and ensure supply.
