El Salvador diplomatic and economic cooperation expansion

El Salvador has engaged in multiple diplomatic efforts to expand its international relations through trade, technology, and regional cooperation.

In August 2026, El Salvador and Panama focused on strengthening strategic relations and regional integration. During an official visit to San Salvador, Panamanian Foreign Minister Javier Martínez-Acha Vásquez and Salvadoran Foreign Minister Alexandra Hill discussed expanding cooperation in trade, investment, and economic development. The two nations also signed an academic cooperation agreement to facilitate knowledge exchange between their diplomatic training institutions.

Concurrently, El Salvador has deepened ties with China through high-level legislative and technical engagement. A Salvadoran congressional delegation met with National People’s Congress officials to strengthen trade and governance. This partnership has expanded into technological sectors, with China offering artificial rain technology to combat droughts, alongside discussions regarding renewable energy projects and large-scale well drilling to support food sovereignty and energy stability.
