Electra and Tesla EV charging rollout in Europe

Entities: Electra (French EV charging operator) · Tesla, Inc. · Madrid (Spain) · Bordeaux · Spain

Overview

In late June 2026 Electra reported its European EV‑charging network reached 800,000 points and launched a mobile app for access management.

When wildfires devastated the Gironde area of France and parts of Spain in late July, both Tesla and Electra activated short‑term free‑charging measures. Tesla opened all its Supercharger stations to any EV brand at no cost from 29 July to 5 August, covering sites such as Arès, Biganos, Mérignac, Bordeaux‑Lac and Bègles in France and several stations along Spanish evacuation routes. Electra made eight of its 600 kW stations in Gironde and two near Madrid available free of charge, with payment still possible via its app or kiosks. Tesla noted the initiative follows similar disaster‑relief actions after the 2024 Japan earthquake and the 2022 Ukraine crisis.

These actions illustrate a growing European EV‑charging infrastructure combined with rapid, coordinated emergency support from major providers during natural‑disaster events.
